My name is Susannah Okutoro-Ketter, APRN, CNM, CEN.
I am a Certified Nurse Midwife with vast experience in full-scope midwifery, including prenatal, intrapartum (labor and delivery), postpartum, family planning, birth control, IUD & nexplanon insertions, well-woman care, STD screening & treatment, and preconception care for about 11 years.
I am also a Certified Emergency Nurse with 16 years of Emergency Nursing experience. I am very passionate about providing culturally sensitive and respectful care to my patients regardless of their walks of life.
I was born in Lagos, Nigeria, where I spent the first nine (9) years of my life. My family later relocated to Liberia, West Africa, where I graduated from high school.
My desire for midwifery and women’s care, in general, was fueled by the multiple occasions of witnessing lovely births attended by the traditional birth attendants within our community at the time in Monrovia, Liberia. I was always fascinated by the unparalleled support the moms received regardless of the location of their births. The main catalyst to my pursuit of a Nurse-Midwifery degree was the loss of a close family member during childbirth.
In order to bring my midwifery dream to fruition, I earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in 2003 from Lehman College in The Bronx, New York, and a Master’s in Nurse-Midwifery from Columbia University, NY in 2009.
I relocated from New York City to the Twin Cities, Minneapolis, in 2015 to continue my midwifery career. I am married with four (4) beautiful children who keep me quite busy and grounded. I like to think of myself as not only a full-time mother and full-time wife but also a part-time teacher to a high schooler, a middle schooler, and two (2) elementary schoolers.
I am a firm believer in the principle of treating others as I would love to be treated. I approach my patients from a holistic perspective, engaging them on a personal level. Sometimes, this means I cry, laugh, or pray with you if the circumstance calls for such. We as humans heal and feel whole when we truly feel cared for and listened to.
For leisure, I love to travel, exercise, and engage in any activity that involves keeping my family busy. I also volunteer in the children’s and health departments at my church.
Most people would describe me as very patient and a good listener.
