Why Health and Nutrition Matter During Your Pregnancy

Whether it is your first pregnancy or fourth, you deserve a provider of prenatal care in Minnesota that will spend time listening to all your first trimester worries and challenges. Pregnancy is not an easy challenge. With countless challenges that mothers face every day, having a proper diet and exercise is important to combat these obstacles.

Joy Midwifery LLC is here to provide the much-needed support you will need during these times. Keep in mind that we do not attend births at present but can provide guidance with birth planning and delivery locations. With a focus on women’s health, our midwifery team can help you journey through your pregnancy with tips to keep you and your growing baby healthy.

Before pregnancy, women need nutritious and safe diets to establish sufficient reserves for pregnancy. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, energy and nutrients need an increase. Meeting them is critical for women’s health and that of their children – in the womb and throughout early childhood.

Having a midwife to guide you through your pregnancy is vital to keeping your health in check. Most pregnant people can meet these increased nutritional needs by choosing a diet that includes a variety of healthy foods, such as:

  • Protein: lean beef and pork, chicken, salmon, beans
  • Iron: citrus fruits, dark green leafy veggies, enriched bread, and cereals
  • Complex carbohydrates: fruits, vegetables, whole grains
  • Calcium: milk, cheese, yogurt
  • Folate: liver, nuts, dried beans, eggs, leafy vegetables

Our midwives can assess and guide your needs as you go through your trimesters. Our midwifery in Saint Paul, Minnesota, can help create a nutrition plan that is sure to benefit you and your baby.
